Peanut is adding Transfiya support. Soon you'll be able to send money instantly to anyone in Colombia directly from your Peanut balance — converting digital dollars to Colombian pesos and delivering them in seconds, without needing a Colombian bank account or Cedula de Extranjeria. Transfiya is Colombia's expanding real-time payment system, inspired by Brazil's Pix model, connecting major banks and digital wallets for instant phone-number-based transfers.

Colombia is a major digital nomad destination, with Medellin, Bogota, and Cartagena attracting remote workers from around the world. But full banking access requires a Cedula de Extranjeria — a foreigner ID card only available to residents with a valid visa. Peanut will bypass that barrier entirely, giving you access to Colombia's instant payment network without any local credentials.

What Is Transfiya?

Transfiya is Colombia's real-time payment system, operated by ACH Colombia — the national automated clearing house. Modeled after Brazil's successful Pix system, Transfiya enables instant transfers between bank accounts and wallets using only a phone number. No account numbers needed for person-to-person transfers.

The system is integrated into major Colombian financial institutions including Bancolombia, Davivienda (Daviplata), Nequi, and Banco de Bogota. Rather than being a standalone app, Transfiya works through existing bank and wallet apps — users send and receive money using the apps they already have.

While Transfiya is currently strongest for peer-to-peer transfers, merchant payment use cases are developing rapidly. The system processes instant transfers between participating banks and wallets, with more financial institutions integrating every month.

Where It Works

Transfiya is integrated with major Colombian financial institutions:

  • Bancolombia — Colombia's largest bank
  • Davivienda (Daviplata) — the second-largest bank and its popular digital wallet
  • Nequi — Bancolombia's standalone digital wallet, widely used among younger Colombians
  • Banco de Bogota — one of Colombia's oldest and largest banks
  • Other participating banks and fintechs — coverage is expanding

Nequi and Daviplata are the two dominant mobile wallets in Colombia, accepted at many merchants via QR codes. Together with Transfiya's instant transfer capability, they cover a growing share of Colombia's digital payment landscape. The system works across all major cities — Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena — and nationwide through participating institutions.

The US-to-Colombia corridor is one of the largest in the Americas, driven by a large Colombian diaspora. Spain is also a significant origin country. Traditional remittance services on these corridors are slow and expensive, with fees that cut into the amount recipients receive. Peanut's Transfiya integration will offer instant delivery directly to the recipient's preferred bank or wallet — putting more pesos in their hands, faster.

How It Will Work

  1. 1

    Open Peanut and select Send

You'll open the Peanut app and choose to send money via Transfiya to a Colombian bank account or wallet.

  2. 2

    Enter the recipient's phone number

Provide the recipient's Colombian mobile number. Transfiya uses phone numbers as identifiers — no bank account details needed.

  3. 3

    Review the transfer

You'll see the COP amount, the digital dollar equivalent, and the exchange rate. The rate will lock when you confirm.

  4. 4

    Confirm and send

Tap to confirm. The recipient will receive Colombian pesos instantly in their bank account or wallet — whether they use Bancolombia, Nequi, Daviplata, or another participating institution.

The exact payment flow will be confirmed closer to launch. The steps above reflect the general Transfiya experience combined with Peanut's existing payment model.

What You'll Need

When Transfiya support goes live, you'll need:

  • A Peanut account with identity verification. Verify with your passport or national ID card from any country — under 2 minutes for most users. Your documents are handled securely and Peanut never sees or stores them.
  • A funded digital dollar balance. Deposit from any exchange or wallet, or via bank transfer. All deposits are free.
  • The recipient's Colombian phone number. Transfiya uses mobile numbers as payment identifiers.
  • No Colombian bank account or Cedula de Extranjeria. You won't need a local bank account, a Cedula, or any Colombian residency documents. Just your passport and your Peanut balance.

Specific requirements and transaction limits will be confirmed at launch.

Fees & Exchange Rate

Peanut charges no fees on payments. When Transfiya support goes live, you'll convert digital dollars to Colombian pesos at a competitive market exchange rate with no transaction fee and no hidden charges.

The Colombian peso operates under a managed float regime, so exchange rates can fluctuate. Peanut's rate will lock at the moment you confirm each payment — no slippage, no post-transaction adjustments. This gives you certainty on exactly how much the recipient gets.

Detailed rate comparisons and savings estimates for the Colombia corridor will be published closer to launch. The US-to-Colombia corridor is one of the largest in the Americas, and Peanut aims to offer better rates and faster delivery than traditional remittance services.
