Pay with GCash Using Peanut — Coming Soon

Peanut is adding GCash support. Soon you'll be able to pay at merchants across the Philippines directly from your Peanut balance. GCash is the Philippines' leading mobile wallet with over 40 million active users, accepted at convenience stores, restaurants, major retailers, and increasingly at neighborhood sari-sari stores. With Peanut's upcoming GCash integration, you'll access the Philippines' most popular payment network without needing a local wallet account or Tax Identification Number.

The Philippines receives approximately $38 billion per year in remittances from Overseas Filipino Workers, making it one of the world's top remittance destinations. Traditional channels charge 2-5% in fees. Peanut's GCash integration will offer a better way to move money into the Philippines and spend it locally.

What Is GCash?

GCash is a mobile wallet and payment app operated by Globe Fintech Innovations (Mynt), a subsidiary of Globe Telecom. It is the dominant mobile payment system in the Philippines, with over 40 million users.

GCash supports QR payments at merchants, person-to-person transfers via mobile number, bill payments, online checkout, and even financial products like savings and microinsurance. The app is part of the QR Ph interoperability standard set by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), which means GCash QR codes can be scanned by other participating apps and vice versa.

GCash adoption surged during the pandemic as cashless payments became essential. The Philippine government distributed cash aid through GCash, driving millions of new sign-ups. Today, GCash is as central to daily transactions in the Philippines as cash itself — from paying for a Jollibee meal to splitting bills with friends.

How It Will Work

When Peanut adds GCash support, paying at Philippine merchants and sending money locally will follow a simple flow:

How It Will Work

  1. 1

    Open the Peanut app

Navigate to the payment section and select GCash as your payment method.

  2. 2

    Scan the merchant's QR code

Point your camera at the GCash or QR Ph code displayed at the point of sale.

  3. 3

    Review the payment

See the merchant name, the amount in PHP, and the equivalent charge from your Peanut balance at the current exchange rate.

  4. 4

    Confirm and pay

Tap to confirm. The merchant receives pesos instantly, and the charge deducts from your Peanut balance.

The merchant will see a standard GCash payment. Your digital dollar balance converts to PHP behind the scenes at a competitive rate.

Where You Can Pay

GCash merchant coverage spans the Philippines:

  • Convenience stores — 7-Eleven, Ministop, and FamilyMart locations nationwide
  • Fast food and restaurants — Jollibee, McDonald's, KFC, and local establishments
  • Supermarkets and groceries — SM Supermarket, Robinsons, and more
  • Online shopping platforms — Lazada, Shopee, and other e-commerce sites
  • Ride-hailing — Grab Philippines
  • Bill payments — utilities, telco top-ups, and government fees

GCash is accepted across Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, and other major cities. The QR Ph standard is expanding coverage to smaller merchants and rural areas.

What You'll Need

To pay with GCash through Peanut once the integration launches:

  • A Peanut account — download the app and create your account
  • Identity verification — verify with your passport or national ID card (no TIN required for foreigners). Verification takes under 2 minutes and is handled by Persona, a certified identity provider. Peanut never sees or stores your documents.
  • A funded balance — deposit digital dollars via bank transfer or supported networks
  • No GCash wallet account needed — Peanut will connect directly to the GCash payment network, so you won't need to create or fund a separate GCash wallet

Info

You will not need a Philippine Tax Identification Number (TIN), local bank account, or GCash wallet. Verify with any passport in under 2 minutes.

Specific requirements and limits will be confirmed at launch. Peanut's general model applies: no payment fees, competitive exchange rates, and rate locks at the moment of payment.

Fees and Exchange Rate

Peanut charges no fees on payments. When paying via GCash through Peanut, you will pay the displayed exchange rate with no additional charges.

The Philippine peso operates under a managed float by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Remittance providers typically charge 2-5% on transfers to the Philippines. Peanut eliminates those fees and offers a competitive rate that converts your digital dollar balance directly to PHP.

The exchange rate locks at the moment you confirm — the amount shown on your screen is exactly what gets charged. No slippage, no post-transaction adjustments.

Who This Is For

Peanut's GCash integration is designed for anyone who needs to make payments in the Philippines:

  • Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families — send money home and have it spendable instantly via GCash, bypassing traditional remittance fees of 2-5%
  • Tourists — the Philippines draws millions of visitors to Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, and Manila. Pay like a local without scrambling for cash or dealing with card surcharges.
  • Remote workers and digital nomads — pay for daily expenses, coworking spaces, and island-hopping adventures using the same system Filipinos use
  • Anyone sending money to the Philippines — the US, Saudi Arabia, and UAE are the top remittance corridors. Peanut offers a faster, cheaper way to get money into the hands of people who can spend it immediately via GCash.
