Send Money to the Philippines with Peanut — Coming Soon
Peanut is expanding to the Philippines. Soon you will be able to send money to anyone in the Philippines and have them spend locally using GCash, the country's leading mobile wallet with over 40 million users. The recipient will not need a TIN (Tax Identification Number) or a local bank account to receive and spend money. Just a passport and the Peanut app.
The Philippines is one of the world's largest remittance recipients, receiving approximately $38 billion per year from Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United Kingdom, and beyond. Traditional remittance channels charge 2-5% in fees and can take days to deliver. Peanut is building a direct path from your dollars to Philippine pesos — through the same mobile wallet that millions of Filipinos already use every day.
Why Peanut Will Be the Best Way to Send Money to the Philippines
No Fees
Peanut charges nothing on deposits, transfers, or spending. Whether you fund your account via ACH from a US bank, SEPA from a European bank, or digital dollars from an exchange, the deposit is free. Sending to the recipient is free. Spending in the Philippines via GCash will be free. Compare that to the alternatives:
- Wise: 0.4-1.5% in additional charges on every transfer
- PayPal: 3-4% cross-border fee, plus an unfavorable exchange rate markup
- Western Union: $5-$15+ flat fee per transfer, plus a 2-5% rate markup built into the rate
On monthly remittances of $500 — common for OFWs supporting families back home — traditional fees cost $10-$40 per transfer. Over a year, that is $120-$480 lost to middlemen.
Better Exchange Rate
Peanut's exchange rate model converts digital dollars directly to the local currency at the market rate, bypassing the markups that traditional providers embed. While the exact rate mechanism for PHP is being finalized, the approach eliminates the 0.5-2% exchange rate markup that services like Wise, PayPal, and Western Union add on top of the mid-market rate.
The Philippine peso operates under a managed float by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Remittance flows provide natural support for PHP demand, but traditional providers still mark up the rate. Peanut's model is designed to give recipients more pesos per dollar.
Instant Local Spending via GCash
Once Peanut launches in the Philippines, recipients will be able to spend immediately using GCash. Instead of waiting for a bank transfer to process or visiting a physical remittance pickup location, the recipient opens the Peanut app and pays via GCash QR at merchants across the country.
GCash is accepted at over 100 major merchant integrations including:
- Convenience stores: 7-Eleven, Ministop
- Fast food and restaurants: Jollibee, McDonald's
- Supermarkets and groceries
- Online shopping: Lazada, Shopee
- Ride-hailing: Grab
- Bill payments: utilities, telco, government fees
GCash is also part of the QR Ph interoperability standard, meaning GCash QR codes can be scanned by other participating apps — creating a unified payment experience across the Philippines.
No Local ID Required
Info
Full GCash verification typically requires a TIN or Philippine national ID. The PhilSys/PhilID system is still being rolled out and not yet universally adopted. Peanut will bypass these requirements entirely. Recipients verify with any passport or national ID card from any country — no TIN, no PhilID, no local bank account needed.
How It Will Work
- 1
Sign up and verify your identity
Create a Peanut account and complete identity verification. Submit a photo of your passport or national ID card plus a selfie — the process takes under 2 minutes for most users. No TIN or Philippine ID required.

The recipient opens the Peanut app and pays via GCash. Scan a QR code at any participating merchant, send money to contacts using their mobile number, pay bills, or shop online. Payments settle instantly.
What the Recipient Will Be Able to Do
GCash Payments
GCash is the Philippines' leading mobile wallet, operated by Globe Fintech Innovations (Mynt). When Peanut integrates with GCash, recipients will be able to:
- Scan QR codes at merchants — 7-Eleven, Jollibee, supermarkets, restaurants, and increasingly at sari-sari stores (neighborhood shops)
- Send money P2P — transfer to anyone using their mobile number
- Pay bills — utilities, telco, government fees, and more
- Shop online — select GCash at checkout on Lazada, Shopee, and other platforms
- Cash in and cash out — through partner agents and ATMs
GCash's QR payments are part of the QR Ph standard mandated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, which enables interoperability across participating banks and wallets. This means one QR code works across multiple payment apps — expanding where the recipient can pay beyond GCash-only merchants.
Rapid adoption was driven by pandemic-era cashless payments and government cash aid distribution through GCash. With over 40 million active users, it is the default way Filipinos move money digitally.
Bank Withdrawal
Recipients will also be able to withdraw their Peanut balance to a local Philippine bank account. This works for rent, larger payments, and transfers to family members who prefer traditional banking.
Digital Dollar Withdrawal
Recipients who prefer to hold digital dollars can withdraw USDC, USDT, or DAI to any external wallet on supported networks. This is available today — even before the Philippines spending integration launches.
Key Corridors
Send Money from the United States to the Philippines
The US is the largest source of remittances to the Philippines. Millions of Filipino Americans send money to family back home — for education, healthcare, housing, and daily expenses. Traditional services like Western Union charge $5-$15+ per transfer with an unfavorable rate. When Peanut launches, US-based senders will deposit via ACH (free, 1-3 business days) or digital dollars (free, arrives in minutes). The recipient in the Philippines will spend immediately via GCash — no visiting a remittance center, no waiting for bank processing.
Send Money from the United Kingdom to the Philippines
The UK has a significant Filipino diaspora, particularly in healthcare. UK-based senders can deposit via SEPA (EUR) or digital dollars from a UK exchange. When the UK Faster Payments integration goes live, GBP deposits will be even easier. The recipient in the Philippines receives funds instantly and spends via GCash.
Send Money from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines
Saudi Arabia has one of the largest OFW communities. Senders in Saudi Arabia will deposit via digital dollars from a local exchange. The recipient in the Philippines spends via GCash immediately — a dramatic improvement over the traditional remittance experience of exchange houses and multi-day processing.
Deposit and Withdrawal — Available Today
While spending in the Philippines via GCash is coming soon, deposit and withdrawal functionality is already live. Users in the Philippines can:
- Deposit via digital dollars (USDC, USDT, or DAI) on any supported network
- Withdraw to any external wallet or hold a digital dollar balance
