Peanut Is Coming to Australia

Send money instantly via NPP and PayID — no TFN needed. Sign up to get notified when Peanut launches.

Australia has built a modern real-time payment system. The New Payments Platform (NPP) processes over 2.2 billion transactions per year, enabling instant account-to-account transfers 24/7. PayID lets you send money using a phone number or email address instead of a BSB and account number. But PayID requires an Australian bank account, and getting full financial access as a newcomer takes time — you need an Australian mobile number, and some services require a Tax File Number (TFN).

Peanut will simplify this. When we launch in Australia, you will be able to send money via NPP to any Australian bank account — instantly, at the market rate, without a TFN or local bank account. For the UK-Australia corridor and working holiday makers arriving from around the world, Peanut will mean immediate access to Australia's payment infrastructure from day one.

How It Will Work

  1. 1

    Deposit from anywhere

Send digital dollars from any exchange or wallet via Solana, Arbitrum, Base, Tron, or Ethereum. Gas fees covered. Or deposit from your bank via SEPA (Europe), ACH (US), or wire transfer. All deposits are free.

  2. 2

    Your balance stays in dollars

Your balance will be held in digital dollars until you are ready to send. Convert to Australian dollars only when you need to.

  3. 3

    Send via NPP

Transfer to any Australian bank account using a BSB/account number or PayID (phone number or email). Your dollars will convert to AUD at the market rate. No fees from Peanut.

  4. 4

    Instant arrival

The recipient will receive Australian dollars in their bank account within seconds. NPP processes transfers in real time, 24/7/365.

What Payment Methods Are Coming

NPP (New Payments Platform)

NPP is Australia's real-time payment infrastructure, operated by NPP Australia Limited — a consortium of the country's major financial institutions. It replaced the slower Direct Entry system in 2018 and now handles over 2.2 billion transactions per year. NPP is available through virtually all Australian financial institutions: Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ, NAB, regional banks, credit unions, building societies, and some fintech providers.

PayID is NPP's overlay service that simplifies payments. Instead of remembering BSB and account numbers, you pay using a phone number, email address, or ABN (Australian Business Number). PayID registration requires an Australian bank account, making it inaccessible to newcomers and visitors.

NPP is infrastructure, not a consumer brand — Australians use it through their bank app without necessarily knowing the name "NPP." It is an account-to-account transfer system, not a merchant QR payment system.

How it will work with Peanut: Open the Peanut app, enter the recipient's BSB and account number or their PayID (phone/email). Review the amount in AUD and the exchange rate. Confirm — funds arrive in seconds.

No TFN needed. While visitors can open a bank account with a passport within 6 weeks of arrival, full financial access and PayID registration require additional steps. Peanut will accept passport verification from any country — no TFN, no Australian bank account needed to send money.

Exchange Rate: What to Expect

The Australian dollar is one of the world's most traded currencies, with tight spreads and predictable behavior in the AUD/USD pair. But sending money to or from Australia through traditional banks still costs 1-3% in combined fees and exchange rate markups. The UK-Australia corridor is particularly active, and traditional bank transfers on this route typically take 1-3 days.

Peanut will convert digital dollars to Australian dollars at the market rate — a direct path without layered markups. For working holiday makers sending money home or UK expats sending to family in Australia, the savings are meaningful.

Rate lock: The rate will lock at the moment of payment. What you see is what you pay.

No fees. Peanut will charge nothing on deposits, NPP transfers, or withdrawals. Gas fees on network transactions are covered.

Who Will Use Peanut in Australia

Remittances and the UK-Australia Corridor

The UK-Australia corridor is one of the most active for person-to-person transfers, driven by the large British-Australian diaspora, working holiday visa holders, and strong business ties. Traditional bank transfers on this route cost 1-3% in fees and take 1-3 business days. Wise and other services have improved the experience, but Peanut will offer instant settlement via NPP — funds arrive in seconds, not days.

Whether you are a UK expat in Sydney sending money to family in London, or a parent in Manchester sending money to a child on a working holiday in Melbourne, Peanut will make the transfer instant, transparent, and free.

Tourists and Working Holiday Makers

Australia hosts hundreds of thousands of working holiday makers from the UK, US, and other countries each year. When you first arrive, opening a bank account takes priority — but it is not instant, and some features take weeks to activate. In the meantime, you need to pay rent deposits, buy a phone plan, and cover daily expenses.

Peanut will give you access to Australia's NPP from day one. Send money to your new landlord's bank account, pay a roommate, or transfer to your own Australian account once it is open — all via instant NPP transfer at the market rate.
