How a Mercado Pago Merchant QR Works

A supported Mercado Pago merchant QR connects a checkout order with a payment in Argentine pesos. Peanut reads the supported merchant order, shows the details and locked quote for review, and reports the result while the merchant receives its own confirmation.

What the Merchant QR Represents

Mercado Pago's official QR documentation describes a merchant order associated with a store or point of sale. The QR and merchant checkout let a compatible payment app resolve that order so the payment can continue at checkout.

Peanut supports compatible Mercado Pago merchant QRs in Argentina. Compatibility depends on Peanut recognizing a supported merchant order: Mercado Pago branding or a QR by itself does not prove that the payment will work.

What Peanut Shows Before Confirmation

Once Peanut recognizes a supported merchant QR, the review screen shows the merchant name and the amount in ARS. It also shows the amount from your digital-dollar balance and one all-in exchange rate. Compare the merchant and ARS amount with the checkout before confirming.

The displayed quote locks when you confirm. There is no separate flat fee for the QR payment. The exchange rate shown is the final number used for that transaction, so there is no need to infer the result from a separate base rate or an unsupported fixed comparison.

If the merchant or amount is unexpected, stop before confirming. A recognized code is not enough on its own; the visible order details should match the purchase in front of you.

What Happens After Confirmation

Peanut shows the payment result to the user. At a high level, the merchant receives ARS through its normal Mercado Pago merchant flow and sees its usual confirmation.

Wait for both results before leaving the checkout. Merchant-side labels can vary; use the merchant confirmation explainer for the receipt fields and reconciliation steps if the two results appear different.

Boundaries of the Merchant-Order Flow

This flow is for a supported Mercado Pago merchant QR. MODO and Cuenta DNI use unsupported QR systems. A personal payment request, alias, CVU, or arbitrary account number is not converted into a merchant order by scanning it in Peanut.

The merchant QR also does not create or fund a Mercado Pago wallet for the Peanut user. Separate account flows are outside this explainer, and the QR never becomes a third-party account transfer.

If the Payment Status Is Unclear

A completed QR payment is final in Peanut. Confirm the merchant and ARS amount before paying, then keep the result until the merchant finds its matching confirmation. Do not submit a second payment while the first result is unclear.

If a completed purchase needs compensation, resolve it directly with the merchant outside the Peanut payment flow. Neither side can reverse the completed QR payment in Peanut.
