Who Can Pay Into My Peanut Account?

If you opened an account, who may pay into it depends on the currency. Check the row for your currency before you share the bank details, because a payment that breaks the rule is returned to the sender. The app also shows the exact rules on each account.

You Can Always Pay Yourself

Money you send from your own bank account is welcome on every currency you can open. The table below is mostly about other people paying you.

By Currency

CurrencyFrom your own accountFrom a companyFrom another person
Dollars (USD)Yes, no limitYes, no limitUnder 4,000 USD per payment. No limit if they share your surname
Euros (EUR)Yes, no limitYes, no limitNot yet — the transfer is returned
Pounds (GBP)Yes, no limitYes, no limitNo
Mexican pesos (MXN)Yes, up to 1,000,000 MXNYes, no limitUp to 15,000 MXN
Colombian pesos (COP)YesYesNo

On euros, pounds and Colombian pesos the app says: "Only you or a business can pay in. Other transfers are returned."

Minimums: 1 EUR, 2 GBP, 50 MXN, 100 COP. Dollars have no minimum. A Colombian peso payment can also be no larger than 11,552,000 COP.

The Mexican peso figures are totals rather than per-payment caps, and we cannot yet tell you the period they are measured over. Ask support if you need to know before you share your bank details.

You cannot open an account in Brazilian reais or Argentine pesos. You can add money in those currencies only from a bank account in your own name.

Two Rules That Override the Table

New York and Texas. If you live in either state, only you can pay into your account, from a bank account in your own name. You can still add money and withdraw as normal. This comes from state rules, not from Peanut.

Some accounts show a different name. Some accounts are held by our banking partner on your behalf — pounds are today. When someone sets up the payment, their bank checks the name and can show a mismatch warning. That is expected, and the payment still goes through. The app shows the account holder name to use.

If a Payment Is Returned

Ask who sent it. A payment you sent yourself is never returned for this reason, so contact support with your transfer confirmation instead. If somebody else sent it, most returns are a payer the currency does not allow — another person sending euros, pounds or Colombian pesos, where only a business can pay; or another person at or over 4,000 USD on dollars. The money goes back to their bank, and they can send again within the rule.

If the payment matched the rule and still came back, contact support with the sender's bank confirmation.

FAQ

Can I move money in from my own bank?

Yes, on every currency you can open. That is what an account in your name is for.

Can my employer pay me?

Yes, as long as your employer pays from a company account. See Can I give these details to my employer.

Can my partner or parent pay me?

In dollars, yes — under 4,000 USD per payment, or with no cap at all if you share a surname. In Mexican pesos, yes, up to 15,000 MXN in total. In euros, pounds and Colombian pesos, no — those accept a business or your own account, not another person. A euro transfer from another person is returned.

Why is there a 4,000 dollar cap?

It applies when another person pays you on the dollar rail. Your own payments and payments from a registered business are not capped.

Will these rules change?

They come from our banking partner and the bank rails. If a rule changes, the app shows the new rule on your account.
