About UPI
UPI, the Unified Payments Interface, is India’s real-time payment system, operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). People pay in Indian rupees (INR) by scanning a UPI QR code or entering a UPI ID in a UPI app, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, or their bank’s own app.
UPI needs an Indian bank account linked to an Indian mobile number, and opening an account or activating UPI usually requires Aadhaar, India’s national ID number. Visitors without an Indian bank account cannot use UPI directly.
Current route costs
The app shows the details and any charge for a supported transaction before you confirm. Withdrawal charges vary by network, and the wallet or service you send from may charge its own fee.
