Deposit via SPEI Bank Transfer

Send pesos from any Mexican bank. Free from Peanut, settled in seconds, 24/7/365.

How to Deposit via SPEI Bank Transfer

Funding your Peanut account from a Mexican bank account is fast with SPEI. You send pesos from your bank to a CLABE that Peanut generates for you, and your balance updates as soon as Banco de México confirms the transfer — usually within seconds. Peanut charges no deposit fee, there are no business-day restrictions, and you can send any amount from about 50 MXN upward.

SPEI (Sistema de Pagos Electrónicos Interbancarios) is operated by Banxico and is the backbone of Mexican electronic payments. Every regulated Mexican bank and authorised fintech — BBVA, Santander, Banorte, Citibanamex, HSBC, Scotiabank, Nu México, Klar, Hey Banco, Albo, and more — settles transfers through it. Once your deposit lands, your balance is held in digital dollars. From there you can pay in Argentina with Mercado Pago QR, send Pix in Brazil, transfer money to friends and family, or withdraw to any Mexican CLABE via SPEI again.

Before You Start

Info

SPEI is a Mexico-only rail and transfers are denominated in MXN. Anyone with a Mexican CLABE can deposit — you do not need to be a Mexican citizen or resident. You only need a verified Peanut account and a Mexican bank or fintech account that can send SPEI.

Make sure you have the following before initiating your deposit:

  • A verified Peanut account. Bank deposits require identity verification — a photo ID (passport or national ID card) plus a selfie. Most users complete it in under 2 minutes. No CURP or RFC is required. See the verification guide for details.

  • A Mexican bank or fintech account. Any institution that participates in SPEI works: retail banks (BBVA, Santander, Banorte, Citibanamex, HSBC, Scotiabank), and digital banks and fintechs (Nu México, Klar, Hey Banco, Albo).

  • Mexican pesos (MXN). SPEI only processes peso transfers. The minimum onramp through Peanut is about 50 MXN (roughly $3 USD equivalent).

How to Deposit via SPEI

  1. 1

    Open the Peanut app

Tap "Deposit" from your home screen to reach the deposit options.

  2. 2

    Select bank transfer (SPEI)

Choose the SPEI bank transfer option. The app will display the SPEI details for your deposit: a unique CLABE, the beneficiary name (STP or your assigned beneficiary), and a unique numeric reference tied to your account.

  3. 3

Copy the CLABE and reference number

The reference number is what matches the incoming transfer to your Peanut account. Copy both the 18-digit CLABE and the reference exactly as shown — do not retype them manually.

  4. 4

Log into your bank or fintech

Open your banking app and start a new SPEI transfer to a different bank.

  5. 5

    Enter the payment details

Paste the 18-digit CLABE. Enter the amount in MXN. Paste the numeric reference into the reference field, and add a short note in the "concepto" if your bank requires one.

  6. 6

    Confirm and send

Double-check the CLABE and the reference number before confirming. Once you send, Banxico settles in seconds.

Your Peanut balance updates automatically once Banxico confirms settlement. No action needed on your end after sending.

Confirmation Times

  • Typical: under 30 seconds. SPEI is a real-time gross settlement system. Banxico's scheme target is end-to-end settlement in under 30 seconds, and the median is well below that.

  • Up to a few minutes during peak load. During exceptionally busy periods (paydays, Buen Fin, large weekend events) some banks may queue transfers briefly. They still settle within minutes.

  • 24/7/365 — no business-day restrictions. SPEI runs continuously, including weekends and Mexican public holidays. There is no batching, no next-day queue, and no "send before 4 PM" cut-off.

  • Weekend high-value transfers. SPEI itself never closes, but a small number of sending banks pause very large weekend transfers for manual review. This is rare for typical deposit amounts.

If your deposit has not appeared after a few minutes, check the deposit troubleshooting guide for next steps.

Fees

  • Peanut deposit fee: free. Peanut charges nothing to receive a SPEI transfer.

  • Your bank's fee: typically MXN 0–11. Digital banks and fintechs (Nu México, Klar, Hey Banco, Albo) are almost universally free. Retail banks (BBVA, Santander, Banorte, Citibanamex) are usually free for personal transfers up to a daily limit; some charge 5–11 MXN per outbound transfer above that tier.

  • Currency conversion to digital dollars. Peanut converts your incoming pesos to digital dollars at the Bridge MXN→USDC rate. The cross-currency conversion carries Bridge's 50bps FX leg plus Peanut's 50bps developer fee — about 100bps total, embedded in the displayed rate. There is no separate Peanut fee line.

Tips for a Smooth Deposit

Getting your deposit right the first time saves time. Here are the most common things to watch for:

  • Copy-paste the reference number. SPEI carries both a free-text concepto and a numeric reference. The numeric reference is what matches the transfer to your Peanut account — a missing or incorrect reference is the leading cause of held-up deposits. Always copy directly from the app.

  • CLABE must be exactly 18 digits, no spaces. Mexican banking apps usually strip spaces automatically, but double-check before confirming. A wrong CLABE typically auto-returns within 1–5 business days.

  • Name on your bank account must match Peanut. The sender name on the SPEI transfer must match the name on your verified Peanut account. Sending from a joint or business account with a different name may trigger a manual review.

  • Send in MXN only. SPEI is a peso rail. If you hold USD or USDC in a Mexican account, convert to MXN before initiating the SPEI.

  • Mind your bank's daily SPEI limits. Many retail banks default to per-day caps of MXN 50,000–200,000 for individuals. You can usually raise the cap in the app or by calling customer service. Peanut has no hard limit; transfers totalling above $100,000 USD equivalent may trigger Bridge's standard manual compliance review.

FAQ

How long does a SPEI deposit to Peanut take?+

SPEI settles in seconds. Banxico's scheme target is end-to-end settlement in under 30 seconds, and in practice the median is well below that. SPEI runs 24/7/365, including weekends and Mexican public holidays — there are no business-day restrictions and no cut-off times. During exceptionally busy periods some banks may briefly queue transfers, but they still arrive within minutes.

Are there fees for depositing via SPEI?+

Peanut charges no deposit fee. Your bank may charge 0–11 MXN depending on the institution — digital banks and fintechs (Nu México, Klar, Hey Banco, Albo) are usually free, while retail banks may charge a small fee above a daily free tier. The cross-currency conversion from pesos to digital dollars carries about 100bps (Bridge FX 50bps + Peanut developer fee 50bps), embedded in the displayed rate.

What currencies can I send via SPEI?+

SPEI only processes Mexican pesos (MXN). All transfers are denominated in pesos and settled through Banco de México. Peanut converts your incoming pesos to digital dollars on arrival.

My deposit has not arrived — what should I do?+

First, verify that you used the correct 18-digit CLABE and that you included the numeric reference exactly as Peanut showed it. Confirm the sender name on the SPEI matches your verified Peanut account name. Check your bank's transaction status. If your bank shows the transfer as completed but it has not appeared in Peanut after a few minutes, contact Peanut support with the SPEI clave de rastreo so the deposit can be manually matched.

Is there a minimum or maximum deposit amount?+

The minimum onramp through Peanut is about 50 MXN (roughly $3 USD equivalent). Peanut has no hard maximum, though transfers totalling above $100,000 USD equivalent may trigger Bridge's standard manual compliance review. Your own bank may also impose per-transaction or daily SPEI limits — commonly MXN 50,000–200,000 for individuals, which can usually be raised in the bank's app.

Do I need a CURP or Mexican residency to deposit via SPEI?+

No CURP and no Mexican residency required on Peanut's side. Peanut's KYC accepts a passport or national ID from any country. You do need a Mexican CLABE to initiate the SPEI — that requirement is set by your bank, not by Peanut.
