Peanut Is Coming to Chile
Pay with MACH, send money to anyone in Chile, and skip the RUT requirement — no fees, real market rate.
Chile is one of Latin America's most digitally advanced economies. Digital payment adoption is among the highest in the region, with services like MACH, CuentaRUT, and Mercado Pago Chile expanding rapidly. But accessing these systems as a foreigner is nearly impossible without a RUT (Rol Unico Tributario) — Chile's tax ID number, which requires residency to obtain.
Peanut will change that. When local spending launches in Chile, you will be able to pay through MACH and send money to anyone in the country — without needing a RUT, a local bank account, or a Chilean phone number. Your digital dollar balance will convert to Chilean pesos at the real market rate.
Chile receives approximately $2 billion in remittances annually, primarily from the United States, Spain, and Argentina. Cross-border travelers also move between Chile and Argentina regularly. Peanut will serve both remittance senders and travelers with a single, fee-free app.
How It Will Work
- 1
Deposit funds
Add money to your Peanut balance from your bank via SEPA, ACH, or wire transfer — or send digital dollars from any major exchange. All deposits are free.
- 2
Your balance stays in digital dollars
Your funds will be held in digital dollars until you are ready to spend or send. No exposure to peso fluctuations while your money sits in your account.
- 3
Pay with MACH
When Peanut launches local spending in Chile, you will use MACH for QR payments, P2P transfers, and online purchases. Your digital dollars will convert to Chilean pesos at the moment of payment.
- 4
Send money to anyone
Share a Peanut Link with anyone in Chile. They will claim the funds and withdraw to their bank account or digital wallet — no Peanut account required on their end.
What Payment Methods Are Coming
MACH
MACH is one of Chile's most popular digital wallets and prepaid card platforms, operated by BCI (Banco de Credito e Inversiones). It enables QR payments, P2P transfers, and online purchases. MACH has grown rapidly, particularly among younger Chileans, and has expanding merchant acceptance in Santiago and other major cities.
When Peanut integrates MACH, you will be able to make payments at participating merchants and send money to other MACH users across Chile. The recipient will see a normal MACH transaction. No RUT required, no Chilean bank account needed, no local phone number on your end.
Info
What to Expect
The Chilean peso operates under a managed float regime. The Central Bank of Chile intervenes occasionally to smooth volatility. CLP has been relatively stable compared to other Latin American currencies, supported by Chile's strong institutional framework and copper-driven economy.
Peanut will convert your digital dollars to Chilean pesos at the real market rate. The rate locks at the moment of payment — what you see is what you pay. No hidden markups, no foreign transaction fees.
For remittances, traditional providers charge 2-5% in combined fees and exchange rate markups. Peanut will deliver funds at a better rate, with no fees on either end.
Who Will Use Peanut in Chile
Workers Abroad Sending Money Home
If you work in the United States or Spain and send money home to Chile, Peanut is being built for you. Traditional services charge 2-5% in fees and the money can take days to arrive. With Peanut, you will send dollars and your family will receive Chilean pesos — via MACH or a direct bank withdrawal. No fees on either end, real market rate.
Tourists and Travelers
Santiago, Valparaiso, and the Atacama Desert draw visitors from around the world. Paying with a foreign credit card in Chile means foreign transaction fees and unfavorable exchange rates. Peanut will let you pay via MACH at the real rate, from the day you arrive. No RUT, no local bank account.
Digital Nomads
Santiago and Valparaiso attract a growing community of remote workers. Chile does not yet offer a dedicated digital nomad visa, but the tourist visa allows 90-day stays. Without a RUT, accessing local financial systems is extremely limited. Peanut will give you access to MACH from day one, with just your passport.
Cross-Border Travelers from Argentina
Argentina and Chile share one of the longest land borders in the world. Travelers cross between the two countries regularly. With Peanut, you will be able to pay locally in both countries from one app — Mercado Pago in Argentina and MACH in Chile.
